Duplicate Cards & the Combine System

Pulling a card you already own isn't wasted โ€” it's the fuel for levelling it up. Here's exactly how combining works.

What happens when you pull a duplicate?

If a card pack gives you a card you already own, it doesn't go to waste โ€” it becomes a spare copy attached to that card in your collection. Spare copies accumulate until you choose to spend them combining the card up to a higher level.

The combine cost formula

The number of spare copies required to advance from one level to the next equals the card's current level:

copiesNeeded = currentLevel
Level transitionCopies needed
Level 1 โ†’ 21
Level 2 โ†’ 32
Level 3 โ†’ 43
Level 4 โ†’ 54
Level 5 โ†’ 65
Level 6 โ†’ 76
Level 7 โ†’ 87
Level 8 โ†’ 98
Level 9 โ†’ 109

This means the combine cost rises linearly โ€” going from level 9 to 10 costs 9 copies, far more than the single copy needed for your very first level-up.

Single combine vs Max Combine (double-click)

In the Collection tab, a single click on a card's Combine button spends exactly enough copies for one level-up. Double-clicking instead repeatedly combines as many times as your spare copies allow in one action, saving repetitive clicking on cards with a large surplus.

The Combine All button

The Combine All button at the top of the Collection tab applies the maximum possible level-ups across your entire collection in a single click. It's the fastest way to convert a backlog of duplicates into real bonus power after a big pack-opening session.

Combine priority: which cards first?

  1. Cost-reduction cards. Cheaper businesses compound across your entire run.
  2. All-income cards. They scale with prestige multipliers, unlike single-stat cards.
  3. High-rarity cards you already use often. A single level of a Legendary or Divine card can outweigh many levels of a Common.
  4. Everything else โ€” level opportunistically whenever you have a surplus.

For the full reasoning behind this order, see the Card Tier List.

Why cards never become obsolete

Because every card can always be levelled further (until it hits its rarity's max level) and because bonuses stack additively across your whole collection, there's no such thing as a "dead" card in Tycoon Cards โ€” even a modest Common contributes meaningfully once fully levelled.

Frequently asked questions

Do duplicate copies expire or decay over time?

+

No. Spare copies sit in your collection indefinitely until you choose to combine them. There's no time pressure to use them immediately.

Can I combine copies across different rarities?

+

No. Combining only works between copies of the exact same card. A duplicate always matches the card it came from, never a different card of similar rarity.

What does the Combine All button actually do?

+

Combine All scans your entire collection and automatically applies the maximum possible level-ups to every card that has enough spare copies, all in a single click โ€” equivalent to double-clicking every eligible card one by one.

Is there any downside to waiting before combining?

+

No mechanical downside โ€” spare copies are never lost or capped. The main reason to combine promptly is simply to start benefiting from the stronger bonus sooner.

What's the max level per rarity?

+

Max level scales inversely with rarity: Commons can typically reach level 15, while Divine cards cap around level 3. See the Card Rarity Tiers guide for the full table.
