Passive Income Optimisation

How to squeeze the maximum dollars-per-second from your business empire.

Passive income is Tycoon Cards' engine. While clicking provides an early boost, by the time you reach the mid game passive income accounts for 85–95% of your total earnings. Optimising it properly is the single highest-impact action you can take.

Understanding business efficiency

Every business has a cost-to-income ratio measured in seconds of payback time β€” how long it takes for the business to earn back its purchase price:

BusinessCost$/secPayback (sec)$/sec per $1K
πŸ‹ Lemonade Stand$15$0.15100$10.00
πŸ“° Paper Route$120$1.00120$8.33
🚿 Car Wash$1,300$8162$6.15
πŸ’» Tech Startup$200K$260769$1.30
🏦 Investment Bank$51M$7,8006,538$0.15
🌌 Quantum Exchange$140B$1.6M87,500$0.01

The lowest tier (Lemonade Stand) has the best dollar-efficiency, but its absolute income is tiny. The highest tier (Quantum Exchange) is highly inefficient per dollar but produces enormous absolute income. The art of passive optimisation is switching between these at the right moments.

Tier priority by game stage

The mathematics of bulk buying

The cost of the n-th copy of a business is:

cost(n) = baseCost Γ— 1.15^(n-1)

At 25 copies, the next Lemonade Stand costs about $550. At that point you could instead buy 4 Paper Routes. Bulk buying with x10 or x100 skips the incremental clicking and immediately boosts your income by the total of all purchased copies.

The MAX button calculates the largest number of copies you can afford and buys them in a single transaction. This is optimal when you want to level a low-tier business quickly β€” for example, buying 100 Lemonade Stands late in a run for a quick passive boost before prestiging.

How cards multiply passive income

Your per-second income is:

income = Ξ£(business.income Γ— count) Γ— (1 + passiveBonus + globalBonus) Γ— prestigeMult

A single All-Income card at level 5 (+30%) multiplies your entire passive income by 1.3. Two such cards stack additively to +60%, then the prestige multiplier applies on top. This is why All-Income cards are the most valuable cards in the game: every prestige point multiplies their bonus, and their bonus multiplies every business simultaneously.

Prestige and passive income synergy

Prestige points add a multiplicative layer on top of card bonuses. At 50 prestige points (+100% income), a +30% All-Income card bonus becomes effectively +60% because of the 2Γ— prestige multiplier. This compounding is where the game's exponential growth comes from.

Maximising offline earnings

Offline earnings are calculated at 50% of your live income, capped at 8 hours. To maximise them:

  • Ensure all available business tiers have at least one copy before closing the tab, because each tier adds base income.
  • Level passive-income and all-income cards as much as possible before going offline.
  • Prestige resets businesses, so do not prestige immediately before an extended offline period.

Frequently asked questions

Should I buy x10 of a business or x1 of a higher tier?

+

If the total cost of x10 of the lower tier is less than the base cost of the higher tier, buy the bulk. If not, compare the income gain: 10 Γ— lower-income vs 1 Γ— higher-income. The one with the larger absolute value wins.

When should I stop buying Lemonade Stands?

+

When the next copy costs more than the base cost of a Paper Route ($120), switch. You can always come back later with MAX buy if you need a quick passive boost.
